  • To find out why your license is suspended, you should contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in Topeka. The phone number is (785) 296-3671 and (785) 296-3613 (TTY only) or access http://www.ksrevenue.org/. Be sure to make note of the location/court and case numbers they give you.

  • If you had insurance coverage on the vehicle at the time the ticket was issued or coverage for yourself, you may bring proof of such coverage to the Court Clerk before or on your arraingment date. If you did not have insurance on the vehicle at the time the ticket was issued, you must appear in court on your arraignment date.

  • A diversion is a contract between you and the City related to the disposition of the charge(s). A diversion contract can allow you to avoid a conviction. You stipulate that the offense(s) charged did in fact occur and you promise to obey the law for twelve months. You may be required to pay fines, fees or restitution, attend classes or counseling, perform community service, or meet with a court services officer. If you comply with the terms of the diversion agreement, the charges against you will be dismissed. If you do not comply, the City may revoke your diversion and proceed with prosecution.

  • An 'expungement' removes an arrest or conviction from your criminal record. Whether you can have your conviction expunged depends upon state law. You may have the right to have your arrest and/or conviction expunged after the passage of three or five years, depending on the offense. Expungement fee is $50.00 per charge. NOTE: A DUI conviction is subject to different rules.

  • You have the right to appeal the conviction to the district court. You must file a Notice of Appeal with the Municipal Court within 14 days of your conviction. When you file your Notice of Appeal, you MUST post an appeal bond that has been set by the Judge.
