The City of Dodge City Commission and administrative staff received a formal letter of resignation, effective immediately, from Mayor Joyce Warshaw on the morning of December 15.
Kansas State Statute (KSA 12-104a(c)) lays out the process that municipalities must take for fulfilling a vacancy within the governing body. Per this statute, the remaining commissioners will have 60 days from the formal notice of resignation to appoint, by majority vote, a person to fill the vacancy.
If the commission does not appoint someone to fill the position within the designated time frame, then there may be a resolution passed for a special election.
More information on the process to fill the vacancy will be discussed at the December 21, Commission meeting which will begin at 7 pm and will be available by live stream on our Facebook page or our Vimeo page.
