Cherise TIeben’s hard work and dedication have propelled the City to accomplish its Core Purpose of making Dodge City the best place to be.


"Proclamation

Recognizing City Manager Cherise Tieben’s Service To The City Of Dodge City, Kansas


WHEREAS, Cherise Tieben was appointed to the position of City Manager for the City of Dodge City on

January 1, 2014, as the first woman to hold this esteemed position; and


WHEREAS, during her tenure she has worked in nearly every facet of the organization and upon her

retirement she will have worked with the City of Dodge City for thirty-seven years. Serving thirty-one years

as a full-time employee after six years as a summer seasonal and part-time employee while she attended

Saint Mary of the Plains College. She has worked her way through every level in the organization and lent

her talents to numerous projects that have led to growth for our municipality; and


WHEREAS, during her service she led the City to successfully convert ideas and visions of outstanding

projects such as the “Why Not Dodge” Sales Tax projects and the STAR Bonds district, which is bringing

new retail development and will aid in the revitalization of our downtown and the Boot Hill Museum

Expansion; the Warrior Biogas project that spanned nearly three decades before coming to fruition and has

been acknowledged in the industry as an award-winning project on a national level; the City’s Rural Housing

Incentive Districts which she tirelessly advocated for legislative change to include communities the size of

Dodge City to achieve the housing growth needed to further grow our workforce and industry; and


WHEREAS, the level of commitment and service brought to Dodge City by Cherise Tieben will forever be the

benchmark for future efforts to grow and sustain a solid financial base, strong conservative and balanced

budgets, a culture of service that will allow the City not only to prepare for the future but to fully embrace

the future; and


WHEREAS, nowhere is that sense of commitment and accomplishment more evident than in her development

of a team of outstanding City employees who make the City run every hour, everyday; and


WHEREAS, the aforementioned accomplishments are merely a simple glimpse into the work Cherise Tieben

has accomplished in her years with the City. Her hard work and dedication have propelled the City to

accomplish its Core Purpose of making Dodge City the best place to be; and


WHEREAS, after all her successes Cherise Tieben has decided to retire from her position as City Manager to

enjoy a well-earned retirement that will be marked by more time spent with family and friends, and her love

of her fur babies and fishing at the lake; we sadly accept her decision to retire but extend to her our most

heartfelt appreciation for an exceptional job and wish her well.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that we, the City Commission of the City of Dodge City, do hereby

proclaim our deepest gratitude, and honor Cherise Tieben for her outstanding professional service and

personal dedication as City Manager and declare Friday, June 5, 2020 as Cherise Tieben Day. We wish you

all the best Cherise, you have our utmost respect –respect you achieved the old fashioned way - YOU EARNED IT!
