Lateral Transfer Program For Detective

Lateral Transfer Program For Detective

Lateral detective transfers must meet the same requirements as the lateral police officer, and:

  • Have at least five years of experience as a Police Officer, or equivalent as defined above, with at least one (1) year of service as a detective/agent/investigator.

The hiring process will be the same as police officer lateral transfers to include; review and vetting of eligible experience as detective/agent/investigator in the application, oral board, and background phases.

The lateral detective process would be open for qualifying lateral detectives anytime a detective vacancy occurs and there are no incumbent applicants on an existing eligibility list.  The process will be closed to lateral transfers once internal testing begins marked by the deadline set for the letters of intent to test, through the testing period, and until the date the new eligibility list takes effect.  If after in house testing there are still positions vacant for detective, it will be open for lateral transfers.

A newly hired lateral detective transfer will complete a stream-lined field training to familiarize the employee with the Dodge City Police Department policies and subject to the unique circumstances of each transfer’s needs and experience. After completion of field training the lateral detective will be assigned to a vacant detective position.
