Convention & Visitors Bureau Advisory Board
Board members recommend methods to implement the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s mission of promoting Dodge City and the area’s resources and assets to meeting planners, group tour operators, travel writers and prospective tourists to bring convention and travel business to Dodge City.
The Convention and Visitors Advisory Board was established to advise the director in matters concerning the marketing and promotion of tourism for the City of Dodge City. Matters of consideration would fall under marketing and promoting such as print advertising, trade shows, billboards, and other means to promote Dodge City and its attractions. Other considerations would be under the operations of the trolley and visitors' center, hospitality, education, and tourism education for citizens of Dodge City. The members of the board shall consider only programs that meet the use policy and fit the parameters of the budgeted guest tax receipts and mission of the CVB. They should also consider the future operations, expansions, and planning for the facilities and operations of the CVB center and programs. Recommendations will be taken to the governing body at the discretion of the Director of the CVB as seen appropriate to report when needed.
The Dodge City CVB serves the City of Dodge City as a whole - we have clear and defined roles with a defined budget, plans and programs. However from time to time, undefined areas emerge - those are the times when a supportive, involved and understanding board is appreciated by the City of Dodge City and the CVB, and then educated decisions can be made with support from the advisory board.
The Board meets monthly and consists of seven members appointed by the City Commission serving three-year staggered terms: (3) representing motel/restaurant/hospitality; (1) representing local attractions; and (3) members at-large.
The Board also includes six permanent representatives from Boot Hill Museum, Boot Hill Casino & Resort, Dodge City Area Chamber of Commerce, Dodge City / Ford County Development Corporation, United Wireless Arena/Conference Center, and Western State Bank Expo Center.
