SWAT Team

The Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team

In 1991 the Dodge City Police Department saw the need to form a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team. The department received a grant for approximately $75,000.00 to train and supply equipment for the team.

The team currently is allotted 10 entry members, and two long-range marksmen from the Dodge City Police Department and 2 members from the Ford County Sheriff's Office. The team also has 6 medics from Ford County Fire and EMS.

Team & Team Member Equipment

Team equipment is listed below,
  • Ballistic shields.
  • Ballistic blanket.
  • Less lethal 12ga., 40mm, 37mm, NFDD, Sting balls, etc.
  • 12 ' box style response vehicle.
  • Peacekeeper armored vehicle.
  • Bushmaster 11.5 entry rifles.
  • Remington 870 14inch entry shotguns.

Each entry team member is provided the following equipment,
  • 3-A Ballistic helmet
  • 3-A Heavy entry vest
  • Gas mask
  • APR (Meth lab mask)
  • Duty belt with thigh holster
  • Nomex clothing
  • Goggles
  • BDU's
  • Entry weapons

Training Curriculum

The team trains 14 hours a month in the following areas,
  • Barricade operations.
  • High risk search warrants.
  • High risk arrest warrants.
  • Meth lab entries.
